Oh the joys of living overseas
So a friend of mine gave me a bunch of vegetables today because they are going out of town. So with enough vegetables to feed a family, I had to figure out something to do with them before they ruined. So I got in the kitchen, put on my new apron, and began to wash, cut, and cook away. I haven't done much cooking here because a.) the gas stove scares me and b.) I've come to realize that I didn't really know how to cook in the first place...i just knew how to open the box. So needless to say I was pretty excited about this adventure. I thoroughly washed my veggies and chopped them up, set them to boil while I fixed a rue (gravy like substance that you use to make gravy or soup). My mom has this great recipe for Broccoli cheddar soup, but cheese isn't readily available here so I thought I'll make the same soup....just as a creamy vegetable soup.
Almost an hour later, it takes a long time to cook here, I had a huge pot of soup. I decided I had enough to eat a great dinner and freeze some of it for later. I sat down to some buttered bread and my soup and hmmm it was good. As I was getting to the bottom, contemplating seconds, I started to turn the bottom of the bowl up to get the last when I got a shocking view. It took a second, no third look but as I poured the bowl closer to my eyes I realized that the small greenish brown specks I initially saw as broccoli pieces were not. In fact they were small greenish brown gnats. GNATS!!!!!!!! Not just one or two or three, but a bunch and how many more had I already consumed. Sweet heavens....I will not puke, I will not puke, I will not puke, but I will stand here and cry. Apparently I did not wash the broccoli as well as I should have. Please wash your broccoli really really well.
After coming out of shock, I quickly ran to the bathroom to brush my teeth because you know sometimes how bits of broccoli can get in your teeth or is it broccoli......or gnats????!
So now I'm standing over a huge pot of broccoli gnat soup wondering how I'm going to get rid of all this?????
That'll bless ya!!!!!!!!
So what do ya'll think....try and save the carrots, try to save the soup, throw it out??? Anyone got any other creative ideas that I can do with a big pot of soup???
