I wanted an iphone....
Ok so on Thursday the parents of two of my students left to go pick up some friends in the capital and asked me (well originally asked their house helper, but she couldn't do it) to keep their kids. They have Captain A, Pdog, Meimei(not their real names...lol). So in addition to teaching them all day long, I would be feeding, watching, getting to bed...etc. No problem I said, plus they were in a bit of a bind.
So on Thursday morning they dropped the kids off at my house for school and headed to the airport. It was a great morning! I was multitasking, getting school done, sweeping up the house....and the 3 and a half year old was doing a great job playing on her own while I taught...wow this is a breeze. So before we left to go their house to fix lunch, I decided to throw in a load of clothes....you know multitasking. Their house has a dryer and I do not and well it's rainy season. So the thought was if I can get these clothes washed at lunch then this evening I'll take them back to their house with me and wahhhllllahhhh...dry clothes. Yes, I get excited over this. Read previous blog.
Well apparently I took the multitasking a bit too far. The kids were at the door putting on their shoes, I had just put the dog up and saw one more item that needed to go in the washer. I had ran water into the washer, put in the clothes and washing powder, I just needed to add this one last thing and we'd be out the door. As I was heading to the washer, I received a text from a teammate and as I was responding back to it....plunk! The cell phone in the washer!!! I must confess that for a few seconds I did have a blonde moment and was in complete shock as to what I should do. Oh....oh gosh.....oh crap. Okay Whit snap out of it. Washer off, stop spinning, and out comes totally soaked cell phone....mid text mind you. BLAST!!!
So with only myself in town and no way to contact the parents and no way for the parents to contact me I kind of freaked out. I spent a lot of the afternoon trying to dry out the phone with a hair dryer, etc. But no such luck, the phone by the evening, still did not work. So I loaded up all three kids and headed downtown to purchase a new inexpensive phone. I was not going to pay a lot of money for a new phone. 1 hour later, with the oldest, Captain A knowing more language than I and acting as my translator, I had purchased a new phone. It was a totally piece of junk and I found out later I got the foreigner rip off price...lol
Today is Saturday, and I woke up this morning to find that my old phone works. AGH! I am tickled to death that the old phone works because it is a great phone, but really mad for having spent money on a new one I now don't need. And if your thinking oh just return it....uh good luck with that in this country.
Moral of the story....when you are coveting an iphone and want one really bad and are about to buy one. Watch out! You'll end up dropping one phone in the washer, purchasing another you later won't need and the Father will be sitting there saying, "I told you to just be content didn't I..."
