The Center
Okay so I totally stole this from my friend Kirkwood, yes that's his real name. He posted this as the "epilogue" to his time spent in East Asia, a year longer than me. I could not describe any better what life feels like now. If you've ever been to this point in life on any level, you'll understand exactly what this means.
(Kirkwood, I'll ask forgiveness later for posting this without asking permission first. This moved me to tears. Thanks bro.)
Beautiful, never settling, feet

“I know that this next year is going to be fantastic. You know how I know?”
I have no idea how she knows.
“Because you won’t settle for anything less than the center. That’s what China does to you. And if that’s all that it does for you, it’s still enough.”
It takes me two seconds to realize what “the center” means. Or rather where it means. She doesn’t pick up on my confusion, she’s picking up her son off the ground. He’s grateful.
We chat for a bit, I tell her I love her as I leave. My back is turned. “I really do love that woman,” I say to myself as I walk away. Such an easy goodbye. I won’t see her for four years, if I see her at all. That’s how relationships are these days. Two lights passing in the darkness.
I walk to my American-made SUV. The stars are out tonight. It still means something.
Beautiful, never settling, feet
