Why I quit the fast food fast....

Yup, that's right, I'm a quitter. I made it 6 months.

On Friday, July 13, 2012 I, Whitney Jai Smith, 6 months into the year without fast food, quit.

And, I celebrated by going to Chick-fil-A for Cow Appreciation Day...hah!

Ok, so some things I learned and why I quit.

First, I'm a firm believer that if you make a commitment to something (and it isn't like marriage or a life or death choice) and half-way through you find a better way, swallow your pride and just do it! Maybe its a nomad/vagabond thing, maybe its generational, maybe its why I'm not married, lol. Whatever the reason, that's just me!

So half-way through this little 'year without fast food" I realized that it wasn't really about going without fast food, but rather my own personal disciplines.  Somethings I learned...
1. I found out that it wasn't so much about if I could afford to sponsor a compassion kid or even that I had to give up something altogether to afford it, but rather was I willing to make that choice on a daily basis.
2. I realized that it wasn't really a sacrifice at ALL!!!
3. It is not THAT expensive. Honestly, right now if I chose to I could probably sponsor three compassion kids and I bet most of you could too!

I also learned that many times the end didn't justify the means.  Often, when I didn't plan or was in a rush, I could end up spending more money on non-fast food, thus defeating the purpose than if I just ate the .99 chicken nuggets.

Now, for those of you who are incredibly heath conscience, you'll be happy to know I did learn some things in the eating habit area as well.
1. I had, probably still have an incredibly unhealthy emotional attachment to biscuits and sweet tea. Didn't think I was that girl but I'd like to give a special thanks to the South and my Momma.
2. Eating fast food, even Chick-fil-A, makes me feel gross. Go without those fries for a bit and then eat them....ewww. But oh how easy it is to jump back into that habit.
3. My body my be healthier inside as far as trans fats, etc. but for me unless you add healthy eating into the other areas, plus exercise YOU ARE NOT GOING TO LOSE WEIGHT!

So, I'm still sponsoring my Compassion child. I'm still choosing to not eat fast food so much, but I am choosing to live in grace (yes, I just over spiritualized this. LOL) and if I'm in a rush or have a craving for Chick-fil-A I'm allowing myself to partake of it.

WARNING: Not eating fast food can also kill your social life with your sweet friends who can't seem to live without Chick-fil-A or are on a budget and/or have children :).

Beautiful, Happy to Be a Quitter, Feet
